Privacy Notice
Last Updated: June 30, 2026
Our services focus on helping cybersecurity and privacy professionals influence safer outcomes, so we intentionally try ourselves to avoid creepy data tracking in marketing and service delivery.
This Privacy Notice describes our data collection and use practices on the following platforms:
- Any website we link this policy to, including DiscernibleInc.com.
- Our newsletters and subscription services, if you sign up for them
- Data we collect from Discernible Slack communities
This Privacy Notice does not apply to our professional services, which are governed by the contract we sign with you for specific engagements.
What Do We Collect?
If you sign up for our newsletter, we collect your name and email address. This information is only used to deliver the newsletter and isn’t combined with any other database.
If you buy a subscription from our website, our payment processor Stripe, will collect information needed to manage that transaction. Their privacy policy is available on their website here.
If you browse our website, we collect your IP address through Ghost to determine what pages you visit and your country of origin. Ghost's privacy policy is available here.
If you sign up for any of our Slack communities, we collect your name, email address, username, and any content or information you choose to disclose in the Slack community. Only share what you’re comfortable with because other community members may see it, too. Slack, which is currently owned by Salesforce, also has its own privacy policy available here.
How Do We Use It?
Discernible is a deliberately small business. We're not in the business of large-scale data analytics, marketing, or exploiting personal data. We use your information to:
- Manage and provide our digital properties and services to you.
- Fulfill any purchases you make on our website.
- Support your engagement and activity with our Slack communities.
- Send you our newsletter if you sign up for it and track open rates.
Who Do We Share Your Data With
We share or manage your data with the following services:
- Website hosting providers and payment processors
- Technology Service Providers for email, marketing, and communications
- Slack
- Our professional advisors, such as law firms and accounting firms who help us stay compliant with various legal requirements
If we receive a subpoena or similar order from law enforcement or the government, we may be required to share your data with them after working with our legal counsel to ensure the request is legal and adequately narrow. We may also share your data in connection with a sale, acquisition, or merger of Discernible with another business.
Sale or Sharing of Sensitive Personal Data
We do not collect any sensitive personal data. We do not and will never sell your data to any party, including engaging in behavioral advertising of our services. We recommend that you do not share sensitive personal data in our Slack communities, and if you do, we reserve the right to delete it.
Do Not Track
We do not comply with Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control technologies. Our sites are designed to minimize data collection by not using data trackers, so we have not implemented additional technologies to provide these controls.
Children
We do not knowingly collect information from children under the age of 18. You must be 18 to sign up for our Slack communities. If we have inadvertently collected the information of a child under the age of 18 and you would like to contact us to remove your data, please contact us at info [at] DiscernibleInc.com. If we discover you have joined our Slack communities and are under the age of 18, or we have collected your information elsewhere and you are under 18, we will immediately delete your information and deactivate any access you have.
Your Rights
You can email us info [at] DiscernibleInc.com to:
- Request to receive a copy of your data
- Correct any incorrect data we have on you
- Delete your data from our systems, subject to our legal retention requirements
If you sign up for our newsletter, you can unsubscribe at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link at the bottom of the newsletter or emailing us.
If you wish to leave the Slack community, please use the app's features to manage your information. You may also email us for assistance.
We will not discriminate against you for exercising any of your rights.
Storage and Security
We store your data on our servers in the United States. We may access your information from anywhere in the world to provide the services you request. We implement data retention policies on our services to minimize the period of time we store your data. However, some of our third-party suppliers may retain your data longer than our internally managed systems. We are required to retain some data to comply with laws or protect ourselves in the event of litigation.
As a small business, we select platforms and services that have industry-standard security in place. However, no security program or control is 100% foolproof. These services are connected to the internet and other businesses, which means your information may be involved in a security incident anywhere in that supply chain. We can’t guarantee that your data will always be secure or that services are always available. But if that does happen, we’ll be here to help.
